Prior to the photo session, we will meet in-person (or chat on the phone if you are located far away) and email so we can get to know each other prior to the day.  We will discuss what to wear, locations, props, and any questions you may have.  I may ask you a few too!

On the day of the photo session, it pays not to exert your children prior to having photographs taken.  If they have had a busy day leading up to the photo session, they can feel tired and overwhelmed so I recommend you have an easy-going day, and that your children are fed (and had a snooze if required!).

Most of all, enjoy this time with your loved ones!  Often we don’t get one on one time with those we love nearly as often as we would like.  A photo session gives a family a little bit of special time together,  just focusing on each other, resulting in some beautiful images from those moments.

FAQ

What do I wear for a Family Portrait Session?

Wear something comfortable, try to either have similar tones or pick a colour and theme that throughout.  Often, I tell clients to select their favourite shirt (or their partners) and theme the colour pallet from there.  Also look around your home, what colours do you like – earthy, vibrant, subdued etc.   I can’t stress enough not to wear a top with a big logo or vibrant graphic, and that goes for both the parents and kids.  Logos and bright graphics can be very distracting in a photograph, and the eye naturally falls on these instead of the lovely faces of your family.  For more detailed information on what to wear please follow the link http://www.carolinewilliams.co.nz/what-to-wear-for-your-photo-session/

What if my children don’t want to wear what I want them too?

Do not leave this to the last minute!  You really need the kids on board, and even pre-school children can have their preferences!  If your child has a strong opinion about their clothing bring them into the decision making.  It will help them feel included and they may be more inclined to be flexible if there’s a change in plan.  If that doesn’t work for you, take a couple of changes of clothing, and may be have a little treat after the photo session as an incentive!

What do I wear for a Lifestyle Photo Session?

As this is a documentary style session with you going about your selected activity wear whatever you would normally wear.  I would suggest staying away from t-shirts with logos or large bright graphics though as they can detract from you and your activity.

What do my children wear for a Tween or Teen Photo Session?

It’s a great idea to talk with your tween/teen to make sure they get on board with these photo sessions.  They are a lot of fun, and we’ll talk over lots of options so that they can feel at ease when we meet for the photo session.

Should I bring anything to the photo session?

If you have any props or special items, yes bring them along!  Talk it over with me prior to the photo session so we can include your ideas and special props.

Should I bring food?

Yes, especially if your children are young!  Although a photo session is fun, it can be taxing pretty quickly for kids (and adults!), and a good healthy snack can do wonders for re aligning everyone!  Even the most confident children can become shy at the beginning of a photo session but after running around with Mum & Dad they relax, and build up an appetite!

When do I see my images after the photo session?

I allow two weeks for processing prior to showing you all your images.  I will put a sneak peek photo onto Facebook for you to view prior to this.  If your photos take longer for any reason you will be notified prior to the two weeks.

Do I get digital images after the photo session?

The images you order to print (album, wall art, portfolio prints) are the digital files you receive. These are saved as high resolution and sized at the print size you ordered (ie. 14×14″)

How will I know what to purchase?

We will talk over your images, and where they might best be suited.  Prior to the photo session we have discussed what you are wanting as a final result eg wall art, albums, boxed prints etc.

How much will it cost?

It depends on what you purchase but most families spend $1000 plus.  If you follow the Collection link you will find more information there.
